Reports have emerged regarding multiple failed login attempts on creditors’ Mt. Gox accounts amid the ongoing bitcoin repayments process. Several Reddit users raised concerns after receiving numerous login notifications, indicating potential unauthorized access to their accounts.
One user mentioned receiving 22 login notifications and expressed worry about a possible attack on Mt. Gox accounts. The situation has caused distress among affected users, with some experiencing difficulties accessing their accounts due to the suspicious login activities.
The claims portal of Mt. Gox is currently undergoing maintenance, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the situation. This maintenance period has left users unable to access the platform to manage their accounts or review the status of their repayments.
While some users reported previous login attempts on their Mt. Gox accounts, those with two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled seemed to have added security against such attacks. The use of 2FA has been recommended to enhance the protection of accounts and prevent unauthorized access.
The ongoing repayment process by Mt. Gox, initiated in early July, aims to reimburse creditors affected by the 2014 hacking incident. The distribution of over $9 billion worth of Bitcoin (BTC) and $73 million of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) to traders is a significant step towards addressing the losses incurred during the hack.
The recent login attempts serve as a reminder of the importance of robust security measures in safeguarding cryptocurrency assets and personal information. Users are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their accounts from unauthorized access.
