The developer firm behind the Worldcoin protocol announced that its layer-2 chain, World Chain, is now open for developers to utilize. This development allows selected developers to apply, build, test, and provide feedback to Tools For Humanity, the developer firm responsible for Worldcoin.
World Chain is leveraging Optimism’s OP Stack, a customizable toolkit enabling developers to construct their blockchains using Optimism’s technology. OP Stack, known for its effectiveness in creating layer-2 chains, was previously employed by Coinbase for its ‘Base’ network.
Remco Bloemen, the head of blockchain at the Worldcoin Foundation, praised the vision of the team behind World Chain, highlighting their dedication in the blockchain space. World Chain is set to be accessible to users later this summer, with plans for a mainnet launch in the future.
Regarding infrastructure testing, Bloemen mentioned that there are no immediate plans for a testnet but emphasized the importance of readiness for the mainnet launch. Additionally, the World Chain project will incorporate Reth, a new Ethereum client software developed by Paradigm, into its operations.
Reth, designed to be user-friendly, modular, fast, and efficient, is typically used for the Ethereum network but will cater to a wider user base, including layer-2 networks like Optimism.
